Rare Color WW2 Photos Give A Glimpse Into Life At War

This photo was taken just several months before the Normandy Landings on June 6, 1944. During the invasion, elite paratroopers like the ones pictured above were tasked by General Eisenhower with capturing and disabling key German positions on the eastern flank of Allied ground forces.

Landing by glider and parachute in the dead of night, the British 6th Airborne Division succeeded in taking their D-Day objectives amidst the chaos and confusion of the pitch black French countryside.
